Nothing But the Truth

Read 2 Peter 2:1-22

Have you ever researched something only to find that the information you found was actually not completely true? Such is life in open source media sources like wikipedia where everyone and anyone can add, change, or correct information in an article. This is why most colleges won’t allow students to list open source articles or books in bibliographies for research papers. The information just isn’t completely trustworthy.

In the first century, the early church faced a similar problem.

But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them—bringing swift destruction on themselves (2 Peter 2:1)

Today, there are many different false teachings about the Bible, the deity of Christ, the church, and more. It is vital that we be able to defend our faith in Christ and understand our systems of belief. A deep knowledge of the word of God and an intimate relationship with Jesus will lead us in this pursuit.

Prayer for Today: Let us ask God to give us a deeper understanding of our faith through the study of His word.

Seeing is Believing!

Read 2 Peter 1:-21

As the father of seven children, I have become somewhat of a story teller. My children often ask me to tell and retell stories from my childhood. Most of these are true, but from time to time, I invent new ones just to see if they are paying attention. It usually doesn’t take them very long to guess when I am telling a tall tale.

In the days after Christ’s death and resurrection, the Gospel was passed on through stories told by those who walked with Jesus. Eyewitness accounts were given more weight because the storyteller had actually been there. Peter wrote to the early church that his preaching could be trusted because…

“We did not follow cleverly invented stories when we told you about the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of His majesty. (2 Peter 1:16).

In a world where everyone has an opinion about Jesus, we can cling to the Bible to lead us into a deeper knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Prayer for Today: Let us Ask that God would teach us more about His son Jesus through the power of His living word, the Bible.
